Forgiveness is really about giving yourself peace of mind. It isn't about freeing others from their guilt or shame, it's about freeing yourself from anger.
When you experience hurt your body feels under pressure, there's an influx of stress hormones and all of those collide to create a rush to respond. Unfortunately, it's often a negative, impulsive and physical rush to react.
When these feelings are occasional and you have a good handle on your emotions, these are healthy feelings to experience. However, when they are overly intense or they last for a long time, they will have a dramatic effect on your body, mind, and spirit.
All of that negativity can heap pressure and stress onto you and impact your overall health and happiness. Hatred is detrimental to your emotional stability and physical wellbeing. It will slowly chip away at your happiness and it will cloud your ability to enjoy life.
It may feel that there's always a force pushing you away from forgiveness. A thought or feeling in the back of your mind telling you that they don't deserve forgiveness. This is especially true if someone inflicted serious harm on you.
